Neighbors on the north side

San Carlos shares Redwood City's northern border, and many customers can see one city from the other. The flatlands east of El Camino, around White Oaks and Howard Park, are full of small bungalows getting second stories and ADUs. West of the Alameda, the streets climb into Beverly Terrace, Devonshire and Brittan Heights, where hillside lots make staging harder. Near US-101, the San Carlos Airport area and the blocks off Industrial Road have warehouses, labs and auto shops that get remodeled or converted.

Laurel Street is the downtown, lined with restaurants and shops, and Burton Park near the middle of town is where many groups book picnic areas. The Hiller Aviation Museum by the airport is a well-known private venue.

A short hop from Redwood City

From downtown Redwood City, most of San Carlos is reached in a few minutes via El Camino Real, Old County Road or Industrial Road. The same team handles both cities, so if you're a contractor with sites in both, you can put them on one schedule. Just remember that San Carlos sets its own hours, which differ slightly from Redwood City's.

Rules that matter in San Carlos

San Carlos permits construction 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays, and not on Sundays or holidays. If you need to put anything in the public right-of-way, the encroachment permit can carry a narrower weekday window, often 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Picnic reservations at Burton Park are open for March through October and take around two weeks to process. Events beyond normal picnic use need a special event permit filed 60 days or more ahead.

San Carlos questions

I have jobs in Redwood City and San Carlos. Can you combine them?

Yes. It's the same team, so we can service both on the same route, each within its city's hours.

Is the airport area residential?

Mostly not, but homes are nearby, so we still keep to San Carlos construction hours.
